Former HHS Secretary/Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson to host panel that includes former Majority Leader Dick Gephardt

WHAT: Small Business Majority CEO John Arensmeyer will speak at the Summit Conversation Healthcare Forum sponsored by America's Agenda Healthcare Education Fund. The panel will be hosted by former HHS Secretary/Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson and will include former Majority Leader Dick Gephardt, Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind and key business, labor and healthcare leaders.

Following up on his participation at the March 5 White House Summit on Health Reform, John Arensmeyer will be attending the regional forum on health reform in Los Angeles on Monday, April 6.

Arensmeyer is CEO of Small Business Majority, a leading national advocacy group for small business on health reform. He was invited to the exclusive regional event to give voice to the 27 million small business owners and self-employed people for whom the high cost of health insurance is issue No. 1.

The budget President Obama has presented to Congress includes the funding needed to ensure that comprehensive healthcare reform can start this year. Both the Senate and House budget resolutions contain a reserve fund to make this happen.

I was honored to be at the White House today for President Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner's announcement. Their plan to put $730 million in stimulus dollars into a recovery package for small business is an important step toward economic recovery for the United States.

Statement by John Arensmeyer, CEO, Small Business Majority:

President Obama's budget proposal includes a provision that would fund about half of the projected cost of comprehensive healthcare reform with a tax deduction cap on those with personal incomes over $250,000. Critics have been arguing for days that this would have a particularly detrimental impact on small businesses.
