MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Small Business Perspective on Lawsuit Challenging Affordable Care Act

For Immediate Release:
Monday, July 8, 2019

In light of the challenge to the Affordable Care Act being heard tomorrow before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, is available to speak with media about why small businesses support the healthcare law

Small business and economic expert John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, is available to speak to media about the ways in which small employers have benefited from the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He is also available to discuss an amicus brief Small Business Majority filed in the case of Texas v. United States.

“The ACA has provided quality, affordable health coverage to millions of small businesses that once struggled to access health insurance,” Arensmeyer said. “Prior to the enactment of the healthcare law, small businesses paid 18 percent more on average for health coverage than their big business counterparts, usually for less comprehensive coverage. Following the enactment of the ACA, however, the growth in small business healthcare costs slowed dramatically. And because the law makes it much easier for the self-employed to obtain their own coverage, many more aspiring entrepreneurs have escaped ‘job lock’ and were able to go out on their own to start new ventures. Undoing the ACA, however, would erase these hard-won benefits for America’s entrepreneurs, cause a rapid rise in healthcare costs and create substantial economic instability. For the good of America’s job creators, the constitutionality of the ACA must be upheld.”

John Arensmeyer and small business owners nationwide are available for interviews.
